This morning I jumped in my car on my way to work only to discover a box containing the dolls I had won at the UFDC 60th Annual Convention. What a delightful discovery. A friend had picked them up from UFDC for me because I had to leave before the winners’ names were drawn for the raffle items. Two months later I’d kind of almost forgotten about them, and then there they were, unexpectedly out of nowhere on the passenger seat of my car on a Friday morning. The dolls I won are “Fancy Nancy” from Alexander Doll Co. (I entered for her for my son) and “Cassie” by Tonner Doll Co. She was created in 2007 as an exclusive for the Modern Doll Collectors Convention. I simply adore her motorcycle “leather” jacket, denim mini skirt, patterned tights and knee-high embroidered boots. She speaks to me I think because 1) I’m a motorcyclist and love integrating touches of that style into street wear and 2) the style is simultaneously sweet and edgy—a combination I am personally fond of sporting.
