A Quiet Week
Written by Dorothy Drake

Wow, it is a week that is quiet on the doll show front, what a luxury.  Even though there are no shows for me this weekend, there are 3 coming up in the next 4 weeks...so I am busy with planning.  And emails, lots of emails.  Most people want to know what's happening at a specific show, or where a vendor has gone, or will a vendor be at a show.  I enjoy all of the coorespondence because it shows that there is a lot of interest in what we do!

Most of the exibitors at a show are collectors, just like you or me.  Many sell because they are downsizing, some sell so that they can buy a new release, some sell because their taste has changed.  Personally, I sell so that I can buy....it seems like the money never cools off...it just changes hands and I am totally OK with that.

Here's a tip for exciting shows that may come to your area.  Check out the United Federation of Doll Clubs site (ufdc.org).  They have a calendar that lists doll club shows and shows called Regional Conferences.  These are great events that are hosted by a local club that draw the best vendors from around the country....vendors that you may not normally see in your area.  The conference is available to registered members only, BUT there is usually a public day that you could attend.  Take a look at their calendar and get to one of these special shows!  In fact there is one in Burlingame, CA next Saturday (9-26)...see you there!
