Hi to all and happy first week of February! So far it has been a miserable winter here, lots of rain, snow and cold. The good news is that February brings my Lenten roses into bloom (they are an amazing winter bloomer) and I have a month full of doll shows to lift my spirits!

Who doesn't love the thought of warm weather when it is freezing outside!  Last week we braved a winter drive to balmy San Diego, and it was just that.  To quote my good friend who was also there, 'don't bother me, surf's up'....and it was, to 14ft! We had a terrific 2 days of dolls, teddy bears, and so much more.

Monday, 23 November 2009 22:43

I think we have all experienced how much faster time seems to go as we grow older.  This year seems to have been especially quick and full of demands on my time.  The last show of the year in Northern California was this last weekend in San Jose, CA and almost everyone that I spoke to commented on how the year just whizzzzed by!

A Quiet Week

Wow, it is a week that is quiet on the doll show front, what a luxury.  Even though there are no shows for me this weekend, there are 3 coming up in the next 4 weeks...so I am busy with planning.  And emails, lots of emails.  Most people want to know what's happening at a specific show, or where a vendor has gone, or will a vendor be at a show.  I enjoy all of the coorespondence because it shows that there is a lot of interest in what we do!

Off to the Show

Good morning to all!  I am in the last stages of getting ready to leave for the show in Portland this weekend.  I get really excited, even a bit giddy....every time I pack to go.  It isn't hard to describe why.  When I walk in to the room that we will be using for the show....it really is just a non-descript jumble of tables.  Throughout the set-up day, I love watching the exhibitors turn the plain room into wonderland of treasures waiting to be found.  Some displays are elaborate, some are plain, but each has it's own uniqueness and appeal.

Selling Your Dolls at a Show
Written by Dorothy Drake
Saturday, 29 August 2009 21:52

About 2 weeks before every show that I produce, I get questions from people that have dolls they would like to sell from their personal collection.  Most simply ask if I know of someone that would like to buy...whatever they are ready to sell.  I can't always know why a person needs or wants to sell part of their collection, but I do know that as my tastes change, I sell so that I can buy something different.

Life on the Road

After an event-filled weekend which included our San Diego show, I paused to reflect on what I might have been thinking when I accepted the responsibility of organizing 15+ doll shows a year.  Travel isn't always glamorous. Even before considering the long hours ...

The Doll Connection
Written by Dorothy Drake

Thanks to my mother, I still have all of my childhood dolls. As a young girl, I especially loved my paper dolls, but I remember being sad that other girls got the beautiful dolls that my folks couldn't afford. As an adult, it has been fun to discover that it wasn't too late to search for the dolls that would create the childhood that was in my mind...
