Like their trend-setting, sought-after dolls, Jason Wu and the team at Integrity Toys know how to do their conventions up right, too. This year, Dark Romance, which more than 400 guests will enjoy Oct. 28-30, 2010, promises to be no exception. The company’s 10th convention to be held in six years, will take place in Pittsburgh, Pa., and will feature the attendance of Sherrilyn Kenyon, best-selling author of the Dark Hunter novels from which the Integrity Toys character dolls were produced for The Ashton-Drake Galleries.  Since their debut in 2002, the Alexander Doll Co. McDonald’s Happy Meal promotions have become a treat both collectors and non-collectors look forward to. On Aug. 20, 2010, the companies launched their latest promotional partnership, featuring Storybook Couples. The celebrated pairs include “Cinderella and Prince Charming,” “Little Red Riding Hood and Wendy as The Big Bad Wolf,” “Alice in Wonderland and The Mad Hatter,” and “Hansel and Gretel.”

They’ve moved their facilities to Wall Street in Kingston, N.Y., and are settling in quite nicely.

 Jack Friedman, the founder of JAKKS Pacific toy company, passed away on May 3, 2010, from complications due to a rare blood disease. He was 70 years old and had spent 50 years of his life in the toy industry. Known for his philanthropic work with children, the military, and charities that needed an infusion of cash and enthusiasm, he was a man who loved life. DOLLS Sponsors Colliii Awards
DOLLS magazine is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the 2010 Colliii Awards. “The Colliii Awards is an international competition whose aim is to bring the doll world closer together and promote doll art from around the world,” says James Carlsson, director of international relations for www.colliii.com. “Some countries are newer to dollmaking than others, but this doesn’t mean that their artists are less talented. Through the Colliii Awards, dollmakers and artists have the chance to promote themselves on a worldwide level.”
Slated to begin in early July, everyone who votes earns a chance at winning the prizes donated by sponsors. This year categories will be added to include more one-of-a-kind dolls, including fantasy dolls and lifelike scale-replicas of people, as well as ethnic reborn baby dolls.
The Web site, www.colliii.com, is a multi-language online portal for dollmakers and collectors to find out more about the doll world in their own language. Currently, it is translated into English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian.
